New Wortley hosted a fantastic Community Festival on the 2nd May.
The event was held over 6 venues with an incredible variety of activities, entertainment and fun.
Castleton School hosted a Leeds Carnival workshop, Breeze inflatables and a wide range of stalls and fun. School children had prepared a pictorial local history project which gave a great insight into how New Wortley has changed over the years.
At New Wortley Community Centre, there was the main festival stage with performances from South Asian Arts, Live Rock bands, The local school bands, New Wortley Music Group and some local acts including Fuzzy Jones and The Monkeywrenchers. The centre also hosted displays from the Martial Arts and Zumba! In addition food was provided from the world Famous Sheesh Mahal who have kindly supported New Wortley over the last year (thank you Azram!)
At the West Leeds Sports and Social Club we had BMX biking, Beatboxing, Dj and Grafitti worlkshops…In the evening the Social club hosted the New Wortleys Got talent completion and we hope to see some of the competitors at the Armley lights switch on later this year.
It was a great day, putting some pride into the area and plans are already in place for next years Festival.
Part of the funding for this event was provided from Leeds Housing HAP fund.
